On December 20, 2013 I woke up at 4 am. "Today we are leaving for India. All of us. For eight months." Adam and I jumped out of bed to check the instructions for our renters and say good-bye to our pets. I scanned my four-page to-do list. I was sure I was forgetting something, but there was only one item left unchecked - Get On the Plane. The kids woke up and I cooked the last breakfast I would make for eight months. The last dishes were washed. The last crumbs were sponged off the counter in a slow, deliberate reverie. After months, no, years of dreaming and planning - it was time to go. We scrambled to hoist on our heavy packs and counted our passports 1-2-3-4. The neighbors waved and blew kisses as we piled into the van. We were off to India, the place I had always wanted to go.

Well who knew it would take longer to name the book than to write it? Certainly, not me. Thanks to the excellent collaboration of my publisher Brooke Warner at She Writes Press, I have finally, after at least four major false alarms, titled the book. When I first began writing this thing I called it […]
